So here's a different kind of "recipe"!
-1 wide rimmed jar
-1-2 banana slices (depending on how big the jar is)
-Apple Cider Vinegar to coat the bananas
-1 Piece of paper, taped into a funnel
-Extra tape to keep funnel in place/prevent fruit flies from flying out
The picture is fairly explanatory. It's awesome. And being sadistic, I watched them die. I also accidentally witnessed a fruit fly birth, which definitely took my appetite away. I'll spare you all the details. Make sure to leave the opening of the funnel just ABOVE the vinegar, so they can climb out and get stuck. It's amazing!
In about a week, a major problem has been reduced to a minor nuisance. We also found a hidden bag that may have contributed to the worst of it, and got rid of it immediately. Since I'm in a small studio, it's really annoying because there is no safe haven to eat. They even got in the bathroom. It's gross. So I hope this helps someone else!
Anyway, my books should be coming this week, and I'm super stoked. I will post some recipes on here, to share with you guys! My mom loves the book, and says the recipes are delicious. I've also formulated a few more recipes to share with you all, even if they're just simple lunch ones! Sometimes simple is better, especially when you're bored with what you're eating.
BLT with Herbed Cheese Spread- 255 calories* (*138 calories comes from the bread, so depending on what you use, you can calculate based on subtracting that, and adding your own info, bacon info was per 2 slices at 80 calories, so I would also check that. I do not recommend turkey bacon, as it is extremely high in sodium!)
-2 pieces whole wheat bread, toasted
-2 slices bacon, cooked to preferred crispiness
-2 slices tomato
-1/2 cup butter lettuce (Firmer, less watery than others)
-2 tbsp whipped cream cheese
-1/4 tsp garlic powder
-1/2 tsp dill
-1/2 tbsp snipped chives (optional)
-pepper to taste
Add seasonings to cream cheese, and spread 1 tbsp on each slice of toast. Just a fun note, always try to layer AROUND tomato slices, to prevent soggy bread. Yuck!
Taco Bowl (Inspired by Chipotle!) - 392 calories* (*With both, no meat- 279, no beans- 227)
-2 cups romaine lettuce
-2 oz meat, cooked in 1 tbsp oil (your choice, I'm calculating with chopped steak)
-1/4 cup black beans (veg. option or can be used combined with meat for added protein!)
-1/4 cup corn salsa
-1 tbsp Taco Seasoning (Try to use home made, or low-sodium)
-Smokey Chili Salsa (optional, I like the extra heat! This is not included in the calculation)
-1 tbsp plain, low-fat Greek yogurt
Cook meat with taco seasoning used as a dry rub, in a spritz of oil (PAM, homemade), then chop it up and add to salad! Feel free to use some Tabasco (my favorite is the Chipotle smoked one!) a little lime juice, or anything that suits your taste buds!
Tasty Turkey Pesto Wrap- 370 calories
-1 Whole Wheat Wrap
-1 tbsp pesto
-2 oz turkey
-2 slices tomato
-1 slice reduced-fat Provolone (or other mild cheese) slice, cut in half
-1/2 cup butter lettuce
Very self-explanatory, but once again layer the tomato slices towards the inside of the wrap so they don't make it soggy (surround with other ingredients)
Meatball Pita Pocket- 365 calories
-1/2 pita
-1/4 cup pasta sauce
-1/8 cup reduced-fat shredded Mozzarella cheese
-3 turkey meatballs cut into halves
Super tasty for left-over meatballs! Serve with a nice salad, and this indulgence won't break the calorie bank!
More to come later! I just realized I threw out the lists I was making by accident (So mad at myself for that right now!). I'll throw in some breakfast ideas soon, promise! What's your favorite dish?
-Whit
